2/18/2023 0 Comments Fatal frame 6 reviewThu 28th Oct "Probably it is because the Switch in handheld is identical to the Wii U gamepad so it is probably easier for KT to port Maiden of Black Water to Switch than for PC and other consoles.".It's a neat approach to engagements that, even after five main entries, still feels fairly novel. Different types of film rolls have various perks - a shorter cooldown time, for example - and they are what give combat at least a little bit of depth. As you explore the linear landmarks of Hikami Mountain, completing objectives as you go, the three protagonists defend themselves from ghosts by snapping pictures to deal damage. You can emulate the Wii U gamepad to a degree through PS5 gyro controls, which is a welcome inclusion even if we turned the option off pretty much immediately. There's a very dark and distressing atmosphere to the whole thing, though, which at least complements the story of three different characters up Hikami Mountain.Ĭamera combat is what the series is known for and it returns here with points scoring and an overall rating at the end of each level. Clunky and overly responsive controls unite with questionable button mapping to make the battle with your PS5 controller just as difficult as the one with the supernatural. If we were offered the chance to watch a compilation of its haunting cutscenes and skip the gameplay altogether then we'd happily take it because the title simply doesn't feel good to play in 2021. A sub-standard remaster ports the horror title to PlayStation 5 to conveniently coincide with Halloween, but for as creepy as it can be, it's not a particularly enjoyable game to actually play. Almost everything the Japanese studio makes comes to PC at this stage, including the recent Persona 5 Strikers and Nioh 2. Videogames are wild.Īlthough this will be the first Fatal Frame game to come to PC, it's not entirely surprising given that it's a Koei Tecmo joint. Wikipedia tells me that Black Water also had a "wetness meter," where the more wet your character is, the more ghosts would appear in an area and the more damage is done by your camera. So you can take nice photos in the game about taking photos. I imagine it'll feel less natural on PC, but the trailer above looks prettier, and it's also been gussied up with a new, uh, photo mode. To overcome their incorporeal grip, you take photos of them using your Camera Obscura.Īs a Wii U game, Fatal Frame was well-suited to that console's handheld second screen. They're third-person horror games in which you, usually as a young woman, explore a creepy-ass environment and encounter ghosts and spirits. I'm 100% wuss and so have never played the Fatal Frame games, but they've always interested me. You can find a trailer of its polished-up horror photography below. ![]() Announced during today's Nintendo Direct (not traditionally a source of PC games news), Fatal Frame: Maiden Of Black Water, which was originally released on Wii U in 2014, is being re-released on nearly every platform, including Steam. ![]() Here's an interesting one: a Fatal Frame game is headed to PC.
